unmanageable to administer such a beast internationally.<br>
As an example: <br>
I'm now assigned 44.102.132.20 for say 6 months - but I'm not installed
into DNS yet so you will not find k8rra.ampr.org.<br>
Whereas this situation is manageable today, consider applying it under
emergency conditions when you might NEED to find k8rra....<br>
I believe private LANs and NAT offers a more manageable approach - not

Part of the issue with 44-house addresses is that they are issued based
on geographic location. When I lived in the SF bay area I had a pair of
44-house addresses. When I moved to Nevada, I had to get a different pair
because I was in a different geographic area. The initial thought was
apparently to ease the creation and administration of RF-based subnets. I
don't think that ever happened though. <br><br>
I'm not sure that the 44-house address assignment mechanism is coherent
enough to drop the geographic requirement and make the assignments
permanent at this time. Perhaps someone on here can pick up this
issue?<br><br>
Another issue is that Amateur RF data hardware is almost universally
devoid of anything like a MAC address. A all sign is as close as it
comes. Part of the problem is that a call sign is not unique to a
channel, much less unique to a chuck of hardware. It'd make IP networking
much easier to do if there were a MAC address, but there ain't. We'd best
figure out something else.<br><br>
