[nos-bbs] mercury OFDM software modem ?

The latest ARDC news noted something that took me by big surprise :

     KM6LYW Radio demos sending a Winlink email over HF using
      Rhizomatica's Mercury soft modem ...

Digging a bit more and I found this software repository :

Downloaded the zip to my slackware 15.0, took less then a minute to 
compile
and install, the binary comes up, now I need to play with this. This 
sounds
like what I have been looking for, for a long time, a linux OFDM modem, 
not
just any modem by the sounds of it.

Clearly I have not been paying enough attention, has anyone followed 
these
folks over the years ? Has anyone tried earlier versions of the 
software.

Bob, this not the same as the HERMES modem you were telling me about, no
