Gustavo, you were exactly right about the From: line being the problem. I went in and hand-edited the outgoing message file spool/mail/wl2k.txt and changed the From: line to be From: kc1uix at kc1uix.ampr.org , and the message got transferred to the CMS without error. Note this involved editing out the angle brackets around the address as well as my first name from the From: line jnos generated.

I still haven't figured out where the From: line is getting it's format from, but at least we've eliminated a bunch of failure modes.. Grazie, Gustavo!
