Woohoo   good new. turns out the linux did not have an ip address. so after assigning it a ip address and redo'ing the autoexec.bat settings. jnos can now ping linux, my router and isp can also telnet out. my other computers can ping jnos and the linux machine and telnet into jnos.  so I am happy about that. going to leave it up and running tonight and check it in the morning. been a long day...going to take a break from it :-)
