[nos-bbs] ubuntu 9.1 compiles OK now, but...

I think you're missing the point here. If it aint working in tty5.conf it ain't going to work in nos.conf.
 
Besides, mu computer uses 7 consoles by default. I think I can spare #5 for use with NOS
