Dear all,
happy new year to all of you!
I know that this is a bit off topic, but is there anybody out there with
experience running slattach on a pseudo tty on *BSD? While this seems to
be no problem on Linux, it seems that all BSDs lack functionality:
on Linux:
up:/common/home/harenber # /sbin/slattach /dev/ptypa &
up:/common/home/harenber #
/var/log/messages:
Jan 8 00:06:27 up kernel: SLIP: version 0.8.4-NET3.019-NEWTTY (dynamic
channels, max=256) (6 bit encapsulation enabled).
Jan 8 00:06:27 up kernel: CSLIP: code copyright 1989 Regents of the
University of California.
Jan 8 00:06:27 up kernel: SLIP linefill/keepalive option. Jan 8
00:06:27 up kernel: SLIP: version 0.8.4-NET3.019-NEWTTY (dynamic
channels, max=256) (6 bit encapsulation enabled).

University of California.

...
But on *BSD (tried NetBSD and Mac OS X, the latter one is my primary
target and as there is no JNOS tun support on this port, I wanted to use
a SLIP line over a pseudo tty):
[23:20] root at Torsten-Harenbergs-PowerBook:~ $ slattach ptypa
ioctl(TIOCSETD): Operation not supported by device
I googled quite a bit and found old threads explaining that *BSD doesn't
support all ioctl's:
http://groups.google.com/group/mpc.lists.freebsd.questions/msg/419947e9e5f589ee?dmode=source&hl=de
But this posting is allready ~8years old, so I hope there is somebody
out there who found a way. As this is a very rare use case, I hope to
find somebody here instead of asking on some Mac mailing lists/usenet
groups.
Any hint (maybe there is another way to attach JNOS to the net?) very
much appreciated...
Best regards,
Torsten DL1THM
