as much as 1A on receive, but there are a lot that draw far far
less. I've been focusing on this for quite a while to reduce
the 24/7/365 consumption of my multi-function HF-VHF-UHF APRS
igate, ISS satgate, EchoLink node and auto-SSTV RX system. <br>

<div class="moz-cite-prefix">I have actually measured the RX
consumption of several radios I use in this system:</div>

<li>Yaesu FT-8900 (and it's Chinese knock-off the HYS TC-9800)
10-6-2-70cm FM quad-bander: 125 mA at 13.5 VDC</li>
<li>Yaesu FT-1500 50W 2M FM monobander:
140mA</li>
<li>Yaesu FT-857D 100W HF-VHF-UHF (used in my 30 and 60 meter
igates): 500mA (about half of the drain of the FT-891 IF DSP
successor model!)<br>

repeat VHF<-->UHF; I have often used this to cross-band
144.39 "regular" APRS from my car parked outside a club demo or
hamfest, to UHF for easy RX inside the building. It can run
practically forever off the parked car's battery.</div>

<div class="moz-cite-prefix">The ham "super-server" for my igates
and other activities is an Acer E3-111 11.8" "netbook" PC. This
device has a quad-core Pentium CPU (not the wimpy Intel "Atom"
CPU usually used in these mini-laptops), a 1TB SSD and 8 GB RAM.
It runs 11 copies of UIview-32, two copies of FLdigi (for the
MFSK-mode APRS on 30 and 60 meters), EchoLink, mmSSTV (for the
SSTV gateway) and EasyPal ("digital SSTV), and the "BeaconSee"
IARU beacon monitor app. In addition, it hosts the X10
"ActiveHome" home automation control interface. The Acer is
running Win7-64 along with FOUR VMware virtual machines.
The
total CPU loading averages less than 30%. <br>

VDC-->19 VDC "car adapter" from my ham shack battery plant.
Total power drain is 950 mA at 13.5 VDC.<br>
