So, the version of the LX Palmtop might make a difference here. The
95LX, as I recall, was like 95% of an IBM PC in terms of
compatibility and specs. The screen wasn't a full CGA in
resolution, though I think it had a zoom mode for some apps that
would scale it. There were some other things too about the DOS
implementation, but I don't recall the details. I just remember the
100LX was the first full IBM PC compatible in a palmtop format.

I've personally not run APRS DOS on any machine, but I was able to
get a Baycom Packet system to run on my 100LX some years ago. One
trick for that was to turn off the machine's internal "cat nap"
sleep function, in order to keep the bit timing accurate. The micro
snoozing that the machine does to conserve battery power made a bit
of a mess of the COM port timing, since Baycom did its own bit
stuffing out one of the modem lines. Oh, and the 95XL doesn't have
the full set of modem lines. It does have a 5 pin connector, so
there might have been a pair for flow control (DSR / DTR?), beyond
just TX, RX, and Ground. Not sure about those. The 100LX and 200LX
had full modem ports. That might be why you need the added COM port
for the 95LX. As I said, it's a 95% solution, but that last 5% can
be significant.

Good luck!
