            dead in North Carolina.  According to the site below, 145.01
            MHz is still in use as the state backbone:<br>

            Here in Boone, NC (3500 ft. altitude) I can hear packet
            stations on a number of frequencies including 145.01 MHz

            Roan Mtn., and perhaps from Comer's Rock as well.<br>
