Analysis of the raw packets seems to indicate that KF6RFX-3 was
experimenting with Proportional Pathing
(<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.aprs.org/newN/ProportionalPathing.txt">http://www.aprs.org/newN/ProportionalPathing.txt</a>) and was also
using Mic-E encoding. Packets were going out with no path, WIDE1-1,
and WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1 if I saw it correctly.<br>

<div>True. And even though it is 2 hops, it still only gets
digipeated once and only once by each digipeater whether
it hears the first hop or not. At a 1 minute rate, it
should be no different than just another local mobile.<br>
<br>
The fact that it hits every local area over 10 states does
not make it any worse for any given local area. It is
still just like one more mobile for a few hours.<br>
<br>
</div>
<div>But the RATE is ABOMINABLE!! SImply no reason for
packets more than once a minute for something like a
balloon which does not make sharp turns! And besides,
keeping the rate at 1 minute saves battery power, hence,
weight, hence helium, etc.<br>
