No, I don't believe so. My V71a, which is the same body just a different head, will not function without a connection to the head. I found this out last weekend when the radio would not turn on after moving a cable bundle. Turns out my control head wiring has a flakey connection which needs to reworked.

Granted I was not computer controlling it right then, but until the head was properly connected the start-up beep would not occur.

Will it even work without the head? I thought the THD700 had to have both the base and the head to function. I assume the D710 would be the same.
Really nice soldering job on the fuse though.
I put in a bid so that I could ask the seller a question. This was done but he has not responded so far (ten hours) and eBay still hasn't indicated that anyone has asked a question! I think you are right about the smell!
Unfortunately, the APRS callsign is in the control head, not the radio so it is not traceable that way…
Hopefully a licensed amateur radio operator will purchase it and get the serial number to the authorities and major dealers and see if it has been reported stolen. I could think of a few reasons why the body could end up for sale, but do agree that it sounds fishy.
