<div dir="ltr">Hi Lynn,<div><br></div><div style>That is a good idea, I could write a script to compare the direct off air packets against the digipeated one and log it to a text file. Now why didn't I think of that sooner. That's what I like about a list like this. Plus I get to break out some rusty perl skills and dust them off at the same time. ;-)</div>

<div>I'd recommend setting up a TNC
connected to the radio and antenna that you propose using for the
digipeater and then listening, recording, and observing the local
RF network. If you copy packets directly and also the digipeat
from the existing digipeater, then you really won't be adding any
benefit to the network. If you copy packets directly that the
existing digipeater doesn't seem to copy, then map out where they
are to determine if your coverage of that area would be beneficial
or not.<br>

APRSISCE/32 has a path display capability that can make such local
RF network analysis rather fun to do.<br>

<div>Thanks for the reply! You are correct, the
terrain is mostly flat in this area. The local digi's that
I've paid attention to seem to be pretty reliable, but I've
only recently gotten a mobile aprs setup going in my pickup

reliability of other digis in the area.</div>

[aprssig] Digi Question<br>
</font> </div>

<div>
<div>Hi All,
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I've been following the list for
several months now trying to get a feel
for the aprs community. For the most part
it has been enjoyable and I want to thank
all of you that contribute to the list.
While I still have a lot of learning to
do concerning aprs (and amateur radio in
general) this list has been extremely
helpful to me.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I have been considering building a
digipeater/Igate at my QTH, but after
doing a little research on <a href="http://aprs.fi/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">aprs.fi</a>, and
listening on the air, I have discovered
that there is another digi 7.2mi from
here. It has an antenna that is higher
than I would be able to put up for this.
So my question is, would I be
contributing anything useful by building
another digi so close, or would I just be
cluttering up the frequency?</div>
