1) You are lucky you didn't damage the radios' receiver front
ends exposing them to full-strength RF at such close quarters. <br>
<br>
2) Almost certainly it's NOT front-end overload -- it's not like
you were transmitting on one frequency and then trying to receive on
another freq with the other radio. The whole point of FM is to
TOTALLY SATURATE the IF system of the receiver to wipe off noise --
it's called FM limiting. <br>
<br>
A massively strong signal ON CHANNEL is not going to overload the
receiver front end on FM. It only can potentially create RFI to
everything else associated with the radio -- at least untll it's SO
strong that it burns out the receiver front-end FET<br>
<br>
Almost certainly, you were creating massive RFI in the attached
electronics (TT4, power supplies, receiving radio, etc) by not
having the transmitting antenna well away from the other stuff.
Eveything was in the intense "near field" of the TX antenna. <br>
<br>
Not to mention that probably the Alinco's transmit antenna had
nothing resembling a proper ground-plane, thereby causing all the
attached hardware (TT4 and power supplies,etc) to be hot with RF.

3) It's a no-brainer to to this kind of desktop testing with dummy
loads!<br>
