Note, though, that "cooling of the gas" will almost certainly lead to a terminal descent from the altitude they have been flying... A little higher and things could be different, but at this point it must drop ballast or it will end up in the drink!<div>

zero pressure balloons (including solar Montgolfieres) after sun down.
Almost certainly not a burst event or anything like that - just a simple
cooling of the gas. It's still a long way down to the tropopause from
there and it will likely slow down as it approaches. If it does, indeed,
drop below the tropopause before the sun comes up, then it will start to drop
like a rock (well, not quite, but a lot faster than we're seeing now).<u></u><u></u></span></font></p><div><div class="h5">
