I can see it all now - aprs changes format to become numbered frames
and we'll install a backbone of UHF links between digis to reduce
channel traffic and collisions. Has a familiar 25 year old ring to it. <span

If I can be serious for a moment, I've recently closed my BBS after
13.5 years but I still have my fpacnode (netrom & rose) active. One
area with which I still have links is Florida where the guys have a
network of nodes, essentially for BBS forwarding and emergency
purposes. Those networks are primarily fpac (Rose under Linux) but they
also support Netrom. Charles, K4GBB (k4gbb1_at_embarqmail_dot_com) is
very involved with that network.

If my Netrom nodes list is any indication there is still a large number
of Netrom/X1J/BPQ nodes around the world, mostly associated with what's
left of the BBS network. There is not much left of the packet network
in Australia.
Is this true? I thought the KA node, and TheNET, NET-ROM were
all compatible?
Conventional packet may be "dead" in some minds, but it is still
a capability that can be used in some apps. Can anyone
summarize the state of level-4 RF networking these days? Some
areas are maintaining their conventional packet systems for
emergency comms and for fun...
