THAT sounds like the scene in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
where Mel Gibson is checking in his weapons at the entrance to
Bartertown.
What is the APRS symbol for "my-jaw-hit-the-floor"?

Keep in mind that here in Utah there is no stipulation on the number of
firearms that one may conceal. I have started classes by asking how many
people think I'm carrying. The most I've ever done was 2 in a fanny pack,
two inside vest pockets, two in shoulder rigs, one in an ankle holster, and
one FBI mode. I could have added a couple more, but it was only for
illustration.
But, given that this is the case, for APRS - which one would one select if
one was to select one?
I'm done now.

If we were using the hierarchical symbol system from OpenTRAC (itself
derived from MIL-STD-2525B) then specifying exact weapon type wouldn't be
a problem.
Now, dealing with multiple attributes and a taxonomy that's not completely
hierarchical (caliber vs. manufacturer, as you pointed out) adds some
additional complications.

Putting aside the whole "concealed" carry aspect (which one does not
advertise), how granular would we want to get with this?
Glock
Colt
Beretta
etc.
Then some modifier for 9mm, .40S&W, .45ACP, .357, etc.
Then there would be the rifles that one might be carrying...

I think a simple human figure with gun in hand would make a nice symbol
for a person out and about carrying ARPS and a concealed weapon for
defense.
