The traditional Baycom modem is powered from the data lines of the
serial port.

Be aware of two possible traps

1. some serial ports cannot supply enough current. If this happens
there will be insufficient voltage on the modem for it to function
correctly, or at all. I had just 3.5V on one modem. The solution is to
use an external supply.

2. If you need to use a 25/9 pin adaptor from the serial port, make
sure the one you use has all pins wired through. Baycom modems use more
than just RXD, TXD and GND. I once spent hours chasing a *fault*
Re: [aprssig] Baycom modem

Is he asking about the modem itself or the Baycom software?

I've used the modems both with and without squelch. Currently I run a
Baycom USCC>4 card with 2 x TCM3105 and 1 x AM7911 modems, and they
all run unsquelched.

It's so long since I used the Baycom software that the Ark hadn't even
been launched!
