<div>First, congratulations about knowing all the things you can do with a d700 radio. It is a wonderful radio.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Before today, I did not know about your country, so I looked at your web site and the map. I thought I would tell you about something we are doing here in South Carolina USA. Our state militia is using the linux version of aprs called xastir in our comm's trailer together with garmin RINO radios. I am not certain as to the legality of using 462mhz radios in your country. We have taken one RINO radio (which is a GPS and 2way radio in one box... smaller than a d7 HT), and leave ONE radio at the communication center. That radio is connected to a PC by serial cable and there is a program that downloads the positions of other RINO radios in the area. We then take the positions of these rino radios and send them to xastir and out onto
144.39mhz via aprs. The range of the RINO radios is limited to 5 miles line of sight on 462mhz, but using this method we can see rino users from 100 miles away.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Also, a friend has an airplane and we mounted a 1/4wave 460mhz whip antenna on the bottom of his plane. We were able to send positions to his plane from 35 miles away using 1.5 watts.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>The script to convert RINO positons to aprs should be included with xastir, it is called RINO.CGI</div><span class="sg">
