support for the USB->Serial devices is highly dependant on the
individual programs. It's very common to find some programs that work
fine, and others that will not. Typically, older programs will suffer

have four different brands of USB->Serial converts here (including
the Belkin). No  one adapter will work with *all* programs, but the one

This is the    "no-name generic cable with a DB9 encapsulated in
transparent "Imac
blue" plastic that is based on the FTDI chipset"   that I referred to
in my last post !   It set up with absolutely no hassle, worked on the
first try and has been running ever since.     [ I bought it under
another name at PC Club, a chain of computer stores in Southern
California. ]<br>
