First, you can use APRS on VHF and talk on a VHF repeater by setting up
your rig this way. You also gain access to the extended VHF rx
frequencies by doing this. So, if that is your goal, it can be
accomplished. If you want to do APRS and talk UHF, you set it up on
the other side. Nothing is crippled. It gives you choices!<br>

On what other radio can you have a TNC transmitting on one side of the
radio and transmit voice on the other side? Regardless of what bands
are available, I don't see how this is crippling anything!<br>

You can set band B as the data band - works great I use this for my APRS
Band A does not receive UHF so you are limited to a double vhf rig with
that configuration
