On what other radio can you have a TNC transmitting on one side of the
radio and transmit voice on the other side? Regardless of what bands
are available, I don't see how this is crippling anything!<br>

You can set band B as the data band - works great I use this for my APRS
Band A does not receive UHF so you are limited to a double vhf rig with
that configuration
