I am departing on a cross-country road trip from Michigan to southern
California on Monday 22 September. Expecting to arrive in Los Angeles, CA on
Friday 26 Sept. The return trip will be a week later -- 3 October to 8 October.
I will be experimenting again with HF APRS-over-VARA, mostly on 40 meters this
time, during the trip, I may try 30 meters from time to time if 40 sounds dead.
The mobile setup is the same as in previous tests -- Yaesu FT-891 at about 50
watts output into a Quicksilver Radio "QuickStick" ham-stick-style slim mobile
whip. UIview linked to VARA running on a Panasonic Toughbook laptop with a USB
RigLink <http://catmeters.com/#USBRigLink> interface.
The usual two-meter beacons on 144.39 will use *WA8LMF* (no SSID)
The HF 30 or 40-meter APRS-over-VARA beacons will use *WA8LMF-3*
Because APRS-over-VARA has been so overwhelmingly superior to traditional
packet-based APRS on HF in previous tests, I will not bother with conventional
300-baud AX.25 packet-based APRS on HF at all. *
