[ 11:00  PM EDT  6 Oct / 0300 UTC 7 Oct]

I am currently observing a dramatic demonstration of how overwhelmingly
superior VARA is  compared to classic AX.25  HF packet.   At this time, there
is a nearly total HF blackout on 30M due to the massive solar CME (coronal mass
ejection)

Currently, my APRS mapping webserver for 30M meters 300-baud HF packet APRS is
showing no stations at all. (Normally at this time of the evening there would
be half a dozen or so stations around the country showing on my map. Receive
via UZ7HO Soundmodem software TNC. )

Meanwhile, beacons from WA7GMX-8 in Washington state and WB8SKP-9 in western
Kentucky are continuing to be received on 30M APRS-over-VARA, here at my QTH
near East Lansing, Michigan.
