My name is Jeff Hochberg - my call is W4JEW - and I am located in Atlanta,
Georgia.

As many know, I lead the annual Appalachian Trail Golden Packet event. This
event is where 16 ham radio operators line mountaintops along the 2200-mile
length of the Appalachian trail from Georgia to Maine and use the APRS
protocol to exchange real-time messages without infrastructure!

It’s an exciting event, but it takes place once a year, and many wanted
something that took place more frequently. A couple of years ago, we
introduced monthly Knowledge Share sessions where we find different
speakers to present on various topics based on or around using the APRS
protocol.

While every month brings a new and interesting topic and dynamic speaker,
every once in a while, we have a special speaker, and I feel compelled to
extend an invite to others outside the Appalachian Trail Golden Packet
group as I am confident that it can’t be found anywhere else other than our
monthly Knowledge Share sessions.

This month’s Knowledge Share session is, without a doubt, one of those
occasions!

Tomorrow night (Tuesday, 01/09/2024) at 19:30 Eastern time, Dr. Col.
Stephen Hamilton from West Point Academy will present “APRS at West Point -
>From Balloon Sats to Land Navigation.”

Time permitting, he also plans to discuss some of his findings from NVIS
testing with the West Point Academy Amateur Radio Club.

My only regret is not having gotten this invitation out to you sooner.
Unfortunately, I was in an automobile accident a couple of weeks ago. I’m
lucky to be alive! I guess this is a case of better late than never.

As always, we will be recording tomorrow night’s session and posting it to
YouTube for those unable to attend.
