Hang on guys - no need to start putting fuel on somethint to cause a fire.
We had to get something in place quickly. There are several other companies
out there that offer free membership management applications but I can say
from personal experience (working with Atlanta Radio Club) they are
atrocious. Raklet is a newcomer to the space.
They are very friendly and are open to working with us. We are currently
working to find a time they are available to meet next week to get started
on our laundry list of items.
I want to make it clear that there are statements made by Raklet. We are
beholden to them…to a point. There are many statements in their T&C that do
not apply to APRSF. Keep in mind Raklet is a lot more than just a
membership management platform. They have several other modules that we are
not using, nor do we plan to.
We are equally as concerned about privacy as you are. Many of you don’t
know this about me - I work in the security industry (IT networking &
security specifically) and have been for the past 29 years. Security & PII
(Personally Identifiable Information) are always at the forefront of
everything I do and I’ve preached it to APRSF since day one. We are all in
agreement that security is paramount.
@Jim - you know me from AT Golden Packet and that I am always concerned
about security and privacy. That doesn’t change with APRSF. If anything,
it’s even more important!
To be abundantly clear - we are not happy with the only method they
currently provide for allowing payments. The method that we are currently
using is the only one available to customers on Raklet’s free plan.
We have the ability to upgrade to a higher level plan which does allow us
to change to use PayPal instead of allowing Raklet and Stripe to handle
payment processing. I would MUCH rather see an intermediary like PayPal
handle payment processing. I would have to think others do as well.
The next APRSF executive team meeting is coming up in a little over a week.
This will be one of the top discussion topics - if not #1 on the list.
The other thing we need to do is sit down and go through all of the various
fields for each member that are present in the Raklet application and
disable/deactivate the ones that are not necessary - which is actually most
of them.

PS - if you’re a member of APRS on Groups.io, you will notice these
conversations are cross posted - ideally at the same time but typically not
longer than 24 to 48 hours afterwards. I will bring this conversation over
there as well.
