This is why we really need to look at OpenTrac as a way to greatly enhance the opportunities that packet data can provide.  APRS is just not going to ever meet all the needs.  We need a data transfer protocol with explicit data type identification.  Then completely new types of data could always be added in completely backward compatible ways!
