[aprssig] battery portable HF APRS?

Yes, I needed to do another look for the BitX, which is no longer
available but seems to have been replaced by version 2 of the uBitX
which they also identify as the mBitX.  I think that this would do very
well.  

Using this, or something very similar, I could use some help choosing
devices for the rest of the system.  The last time I did APRS I used my
early model Opentracker+ with a Garmin GPS12XL.  To keep the system
power efficient, compact, and light, how can it be improved?  I will
not need a display or any controls in view, maybe a GPS screen to see
other local APRS activity and time of day, and maybe optionally a way
to send short text messages.

Work while it is dark, the day is coming and then I'll really be busy
with job related stuff.
