Not quite true, they've been supplanted by GPS receivers with mapping
capability such as the ones made by Garmin. All map data is loaded on
the internal memory or optional SD card, no network required (Delorme
was also purchased by Garmin in 2016 and Garmin has incorporated their
detailed mapping into the GPS receivers since the acquisition).
