That far north I suspect that HF (meaning 30 meters) would be nearly useless 
for most of the solar cycle.   Even here in the center of the Lower Peninsula 
of Michigan at 42 degs north (260 mi / 400 KM due south of Sault Ste Marie), 
the HF activity is very sparse compared to what I hear from my mobile only  a 
couple of hundred miles farther south.    [The earth's magnetic field tends to 
deflect charged particles of the solar wind to the far northern/southern 
latitudes. In turn, this increases the ionization (and HF radio losses) of the 
upper atmosphere more than at lower latitudes. ]

The question then is how much 2M APRS activity is there in the Yellowknife 
area?   Are there ANY APRS hams in the area besides yourself?
