Holy cow, talk about (me) reinventing the wheel.  It's possible to 
migrate the data , even easier if someone could share a copy of the 
original data.

However, looking at the thread here, I think it might be usable to 
articulate: what problem we are trying to solve here?

Like good engineers we start talking about tools  before requirements :-)

In my view, having an easy-to-use and authoritative information point is 
important to maintain the health of the APRS and prepare it for the 
future.   There are lots of interesting opportunities available with 
some emerging trends in miniaturization, digital signal processing , etc.

Frankly the cynicism I'm reading doesn't seem to accomplishing anything 
other than maintaining the status quo.
