[aprssig] Semtech transceiver / radio modules

Has anyone messed with these?

Looks like  the IC can do "137 MHz to 1020 MHz" and there are development
kits and reference designs that cover 70cm and 33cm, and some VHF in the
neighborhood of 2m.

The IC has separate input and output in the RF side, so it seems to this RF
design novice that it would be feasible to bolt on a PA and to amateur
radio power levels with them.

There's a vendor selling ready to use modules based on these devices:

Unfortunately they are not simple data radios with simple UART IO like an
Xbee; a micro controller and some software would be required to do anything
useful.
