Or maybe hang it from a string and measure the motion as it rocks back and forth. The amplitude would be proportional to the wind speed and the plane it rocks in would would probably be good for direction, though there would be 180 degree ambiguity. Maybe the swing would be a bit higher when downwind.
Even without wind, $29 for wireless temp, humidity, and pressure isn't bad as weather stations go!
