Wolfgang Phillips, W8DA has added an APRS over PSK-63 beacon facility to
the beta version of his DroidPSK Android app.

This will use the phone GPS to generate the PSK-63 audio tones to
transmit a HF APRS over digimodes packet over a HF SSB radio.

The beta version of the app with this facility can only be obtained at
present by signing on as a beta tester on the DroidPSK Google+ page.

Julian White OH8GEJ who has asked for this facility has posted a YouTube
video demonstrating the app here:

The app works directly with igate stations running the APRS Messenger
program available here:

http://www.crosscountrywireless.net/aprs_messenger.htm

Most igate stations are operating on 10.1497 MHz so if you set your dial
frequency to 10.1487 MHz and use a PSK-63 tone frequency of 1 kHz on USB
you will be on 10.1497 MHz.

It's an exciting development as it allows anyone with an Android phone
and a HF rig to be able to send HF APRS over digimodes. You don't need
to carry a PC or have VHF or WiFi/phone coverage anymore!

If Wolfgang gets enough feedback he will add more functionality to the
HF APRS version of his app.

Regards,

Chris, G4HYG
