[aprssig] alternatives to TCP

There's been some mails in the digest recently under a subject line of
passcode alternaties, etc.
Leaving aside the security/authentication/non-ham traffic issues..

Why not use Disruption/Delay Tolerant Networking using Bundle Protocol
or LTP? They are specifically designed for long latency radio links
without real time acknowledgement (although it can accommodate it).

You put BP protocol data units into whatever link layer you want (AX.25,
CCSDS AOS, IP UDP, etc.)

There's an off the shelf implementation called ION

http://sourceforge.net/projects/ion-dtn/

Seems it could interoperate just fine with existing APRS traffic, but
give you way to do delivery of larger objects or files.
