Results of plugging my D-72 into my Raspbian-equipped RasPi:
I¹ve never had a problem with SiLabs chips with Linux.  OSX and Windows,
yes, verily, but never with Linux.

I also went ahead and set up AX25 on Raspbian, and installed minicom.  You
want to use 9600,N,8,1 with no hardware or software flow control to talk
to the radio.  I just gave it a ³kiss on² and ³restart² command (not
³reset²).
The ax25 Œbeacon¹ command from the command line seems to send a valid
beacon, so I¹ll bang on getting APRX set up next.
