Chuckle...  So did the chase car have an inflatable boat for such a contingency...?  Or were there just a bunch of guys on the shore, pointing and wishing for a wind shift...?

Splash!  Worked perfectly but we overshot the island! Drats!

See the track: http://aprs.org/balloons.html

We did not calculate the slow descent of a small water bottle only weighing 80g even without a chute.  Only a 30’ streamer.  The  payload came down no faster than it went up.  So even though the cut worked at the Burn Longitude, the descent overshot the island.

A small (2 party balloon) payload sending FM CW on 433.72 +/- MHz may be heard within a few dozen miles of Annapolis Maryland around Noon on Wed.  It sends LAT/LON/ALT using a modified CW and a KeyFob 10mw FM transmitter.

The balloon will only go to 5000’ and wont have a range beyond 50 miles or less.

See details: http://aprs.org/balloons.html

You will see local APRS bulletins from the chase team, but You wont see the position on APRS unless someone has time to take the decoded LAT/LON/ALT in CW and enter them as an object.
