Ok, that adds some complication.
I've done underwater metal detectors.
I would be VERY tempted to change from analog circuitry to a processor, and
use magnetic reed switches for tuning. That can work through a permanently
sealed case. Battery charging can be done inductively, but all
rechargeables have a finite lifetime. Anything with seals though, is
problematic. Pressure isn't an issue, the casing can be filled with mineral
oil and then it will go deeper than you will without a JIM suit.
