> Why not standardize on one throughout the world?
We have. It is 145.825 MHz for Spacecraft which is the only APRS VHF system
that crosses the continents. All of these satellites have had APRS
digipeaters on this INTERNATIONAL frequency and there are IGates around the
world listening:
SPRE, SAREX, SUNSAT, PCSAT-1, PCSAT-2, ISS, ANDE, RAFT, FAST-1, FAST-2 and
hopefully others.
The desire is to have as many APRS satellites on 145.825 as people will
build. We can have as many as 10 in orbit at the same time without a
problem and have global coverage 24/7/365.
However, to date, the most that have been working at the same time was 3
(for only a 2 week overlap) and otherwise, generally only one at a time.
I wish we could inspire more CUBESATS to have digipeaters on 145.825 after
their primary mission is over...
