Bill, Excellent rebuttal.

I have always personally thought it would be useful to have a few MEGA
STATION digipeaters but as soon as we open that pandora's box, EVERYONE
becomes a digi.  That is why I had hoped that the "mega stations" of most
advantage to operators would be obvious to the operators and then people
would use them (not generically) but by specific callsign, which is OK in my
book.

That way we kinda get what we both want.  I remember back when I was on 30m
24/7/365, that is was obvious to me who was always there and who might make
a good digi for me at any give time.  I just looked at my hit log and picked
the most consistent station.

It's good to hear that you're still checking it out.  I would get a
big kick out of seeing your packets directed (or digipeated :)  )
sometime.

There is, as you've long mentioned, a sweet spot -- generally around
18% usage...

course very cool to watch and communicate with folks in usual
situations - like boaters and truckers.

How do you know the 3rd one is there and available via the digi in the
middle if you don't see it via the digi...

I think you're looking at this from a IGate in every garage
standpoint...    Assuming there are no Igates and the goal is not
simply to show up on the web - but to see other users ON RF how does
that color your view?

I believe this is a good use of proportional pathing..    An automatic
one-hop generic beacon every hour and a non-hop offset by 30 minutes.
 That would "fill in the map."    Additional manual one or more hop
transmissions could be generated when a user was at the keyboard
playing APRS/Packet...
