Here's the pinout for the GPIO pads.
http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/384  The board will not ship with
headers to reduce cost. A trivial thing to add for a tinkerer.
Alternatively, one could use the Chumby Hacker Board,
http://www.adafruit.com/products/278 , less capable, but only 200mW. More
connectivity out of the box, too.
