I'll give you two:
*) Windows boxes that are about ready to croak due to excessive memory or CPU being used. They can slow down to a crawl sometimes and delay processing of packets as they're heading from TNC -> Inet.
*) Xastir way back when: Reading in a log file used to send the packets out the igate port(s) as well. Fixed in code at least a couple of years ago.
