These ports are overwhelmingly obsolete. Users are now being urged by all
server operators to use the user-defined port 14580 filter port instead. On
port 14580, you can custom define a feed that meets your requirements far more
precisely. You can ask for a specific radius around a given lat/long point (or
a given callsign), a rectangular box bounded by a pair of lat/long points, by
callsign or callsign prefix, by APRS symbol type and much more.
You can combine multiple filter expressions to, for example, bound your home
location or state with a box of a given size + a circle around a friend's
location on a trip at the other side of the country. You can also EXCLUDE
various combinations of symbols, areas, etc.
The user-defined filter is vastly more versatile than the classic fixed feeds
and can tremendously reduce the bandwidth consumption by not sending you a
firehose of stuff you DON'T want.

Note that in UIview, the command line that begins with "filter" and then some
expressions is entered into the field "Extra log-on text" on the "Setup, APRS
Server Setup" page. You will also have to hit "Insert" and enter at least one
new line into the APRS server list, specifying a servername:14580 such as:
. aprsca.net:14580
All the APRS servers, both the classic tier 1 and all the tier 2 servers, now
support (and encourage the use of) the port 14580 filter port.
