Both within a few feet of sea level with maybe 50-100 feet high terrain (+ 100' trees on top of that) in between, plus dipole on one end at only 30' and beam on the other, but beam was off by about 25 degrees. It was splitting the difference between two expected stations. But that should not have been less than 3 dB down from the main beam.
So it does not suprise me.
