A good ratcheting crimper is worth its weight that’s for sure! I have them
for all types of connectors.

Absolutely agree with the right tool for the job!
Used to "bodge" 1/4" spade connectors with a poor quality crimp tool +
sometimes solder. Never really that good.
Then bought a professional grade ratchet tool and the difference in
connecting quality was staggering. Never soldered another because there was
no need to, the crimp was perfect every time.
I now have ratchet tools for all types of crimp!

Bad idea, in my experience. Makes a brittle joint, subject to breaking.
Do what the connector is designed for. If it's designed for crimp, use the
right tool, not some random pair of pliers you have lying around, and it'll
work just fine.
