That's why I use the iMic as my sound card building block.   It has a good 
crystal-controlled timebase and "just works" out of the box.

[The really SEVERE calibration issues arise with analog SSTV where cumulative 
timing errors build up over a 30-120 second time frame, causing pictures to be 
severely slanted.]
