See Stephen's reply about USB!

When I said "connect it to a terminal program" I was forgetting that you
probably have the version of the GTRANS cable that connects directly to the
D710. Mine has a 9 pin DE-9 for connecting to an RS-232 port, so it's a lot
easier for me to connect it to a terminal program and see what it is
spitting out.

You would have to make up an adapter to go from the 3 pin connector on the
end of the Kenwood version of the GTRANS cable to go to a serial port...
ground, transmit data and receive data. You could just haywire a stereo jack
to a DE-9 and then connect that to your PC, or to a USB to serial adapter if
you don't have any RS-232 ports.
