I think the old Kansas Near-Space Group launched some cockroaches once. I
remember that some hi-altitude balloon group did this several years ago...

Apparently, cockroaches have been to the "edge of space" before
and survived. I'm not sure if they were in a sealed capsule or exposed
to the ambient air pressure. Apparently, they would have to be launched
to a higher altitude to get rid of them permanently!
