APRS still shows very much promise at Dayton 2010!
Here are some of the high interest areas:
New Yaesu VX-8GR HT with built in GPS (now)
New Kenwood TH-D72 HT with built in GPS and TNC access(later)
New Yaesu VX-8DR firmware upgrade for VX8R
New devices from BYONICS.com (Byon N6BG)
New devices from ArgentData.com (Scott, NV1G)
New devices from RPC-Electronics.com (Jason KE4NYV)
New APRSISCE client APRS softare for Windows and Windows mobile
http://aprsisce.wikidot.com/
New APRStt with Voice Response see APRSspeak.com (Doug KA2UPW)
New APRStt hardware module for Byonics TT4
New APRS RFID tracking www.aprs.org/aprs-rfid.html
But remember... it's the NETWORK!
EVERYONE needs to start making sure that their LOCAL area
digipeaters and their local area network are FINE TUNED to
handle the load. There were over 300 APRS mobiles running
around dayton, and yet that kind of load can be handeled with
proper digipeater set up... And good user settings and
reasonable user expectations. Ill update
www.aprs.org/fix14439.html
Not only the digipeaeters need work, but I guess that 50% of the
APRS mobiles need mentoring towards proper operation too...
Ill write more on each topic as I have time.
BUT we MUST get every APRS digi set properly, operation with 5
year old parameters in the USA in most areas MUST be updated to
the New-N Paradigm AND the LOCALINFO initiative.
