Just try doing APRS *without* electricity.  =]

(I was actually trying to figure out at one point if you could stack up 
a bunch of piezoelectric discs of varying thicknesses, connected to a 
conductive rod and spaced with insulating material, to generate a radio 
pulse using a small explosive charge.  Sounds like a good excuse to blow 
stuff up in the name of science, anyway.)
