Even when the energy source is gas or oil, you still have a significant
electrical load for blowers, pumps, etc.
The biggest backfeeding threat is when the distribution line is broken just
beyond the transformer that serves your house. Even then, you will likely
trip the breakers on your generator long before any lineman gets near it.
Still, it's better to be safe than sorry and to wire according to the NEC.
